Technology and children – one of the most significant conversations of modern times. Some people think that technology stops kids from being kids. Other people believe that it can bring kids learning into contemporary times and actually prepare them for how life will be in the future.
Although we can’t really be sure what the future will bring in terms of technology, we can be assured that it will be a massive part of how our children will interact with the world. Many schools now use tablets as a means of delivering sessions, and most homework is required to be completed on a computer and printed.
If you guide how a child uses the technology you can more easily predict the outcome of how they will look at that piece of technology.
Here are some ways that kids can use technology in a good way.
From the kits that help you build robots, and electrical circuits to how exactly a remote control car works – and for the best ones My RCtopia say visit our website. There is a lot of space for exploration, for creating and learning. From writing poetry, creating websites, to editing photos – you will probably be using a computer to do it. If you want to design buildings, you will be using CAD, creating beats? Garageband is perhaps a sweet starting point for you.
There is a lot of room for people to get creative online, and as such, there are more freelancers and small creative companies now.
Technology, like art, is a soaring exercise of the human imagination. Daniel Bell
Think of the internet as a large community. Some places are much darker than others, but if you and your child have open conversations about where those places are and where it is safe, then you might just find they pass that message on. When we start thinking of ourselves as part of a community, part of something bigger than just us, we behave in a way that fits the mold. Which means we understand how our behavior affects others and the mission of being a digital citizen is to teach children to “respect, educate and protect” while they are online (Ribble, 2017).
As mentioned above, many schools are introducing computer time, and in fact, many now use tablets to teach from. Technology can safely and effectively deliver the same information to each student without needing to explain it repeatedly. It’s right there in an easy to digest form. The variety of learning materials that can be loaded on to a single tablet can match the knowledge of a few teachers. Of course, the human touch that is missing is where a lot of learning joy and inspiration comes from – so they won’t be replacing the real deal anytime soon. But the sheer volume of ability and delivery can’t be denied.
Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important. Bill Gates
There is the added bonus that apps can be used across computers, tablets and phones – so children can access the same frameworks at home, or in school – and even on holiday without any stress.
Kids can also get access to new learning websites too, and complement what they are already learning or choose to learn something new. Coding, other languages and website building are pretty common options, and they really do add to the rounded new of a modern education – and the skills can be applied
A library is a treasure trove of joy and excitement. The smell of old pages, the cracking of spines on new books, and there is nothing that can replace that feeling. However, a single handheld device can hold millions of books. There are so many children that are hungry for literature, but the library isn’t very accessible to theirs has recently closed down – a book reader can solve that problem.
It also means that school students and university students no longer have to carry 5+ heavy books in their backpack. They can carry a light tablet or eReader with all of their books loaded on to it. Which is a pretty cool thing.
It is essential that children understand their family dynamics. And most of the time, family is spread across different countries and continents – with not all that interaction save for weddings and funerals. Which is a shame. But you can help strengthen those bonds, by using Skype or another video calling software so that they can begin to build a relationship. Telling jokes, talking about their days, singing songs, and being ‘there’ for birthdays and Christmas is a big deal. Technology, as we use it now, has allowed children to get a deeper understanding of how far their family extends – and where they fit into that.
Let’s face it – technology is a lot of fun as well as educational. Watching movies in the morning, playing games that are fun and educational at the same time – learning letters and numbers.
There is a balance to be found in the use of technology, and sometimes kids can become a little too dependent on the tablet in their hand. But, most adults are addicted to their mobile devices as well. Having tech-free days or weeks, then ensuring that there are limits set about how many hours the tablet can be used for per day will help curb that.
Technology is in almost everything that we do, so making sure that children can use what they have the responsibility, and understand aspects of internet safety – then you are likely to find when it comes time to use computers and tablets in their school life, they already have the skills required to get ahead.
In education, technology can be a life-changer, a game-changer, for kids who are both in school and out of school. Technology can bring textbooks to life. The Internet can connect students to their peers in other parts of the world. It can bridge the quality gaps. Queen Rania of Jordan
