I’m Being The Best Version Of Myself and I Don’t Need Your Permission

It’s already May ya’ll and my only New Year’s Resolution for 2017 was to NOT go through the same hardships I went through in 2016. Like many, 2016 was an extremely rough year for me mentally, spiritually and financially. I definitely needed a change and I knew that it needed to be done in order to live to my highest potential.

A good friend of mine once told me that the only constant in this world is change. Change is difficult but it’s very necessary if you want move forward to the next chapter in your life. And boy let me tell you life…TIME…waits for NOBODY. You either commit to change or you don’t. You either want to be the best version of you or you don’t.

I knew I needed to change when I felt like those around me who I consistently tried to support had no problem seeing me fail or struggle in life.

That may have not been the case, but me being the cancer that I am…its natural for me to want to help and support my people and put their needs above my own. One lesson I learned was that you can’t operate with an empty glass and my glass was SUPER empty ya’ll. It took me losing damn near everything I had including my mind to wake up and realize that I HAD to change.

The messed up part is that when you start your journey and things start to get better for you, the negative people in your life start to get BIG MAD. Instead of being happy and supportive of all the positive changes you’ve made, they get upset with you like YOU did something wrong. Why is that? Is it because you are no longer a convenience to them? That they thrived off of your failures? I wish I knew the answer to that question. All I know is that as I’ve continued to focus on me and be the best version that I can be, relationships have changed. Some good and some bad. The GAG is that I am okay with it because those relationships were meant to be changed anyway!

If you want to start the business that you have always dreamed of starting and you lose a couple of your “homies” in the process SO WHAT! Those people weren’t meant to go with you in your next chapter. Queen O said (that’s Oprah Winfrey for the slow folk) “Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.” She didn’t say lower…she said HIGHER. Any life coach will tell you that the company you keep plays a part in your personal success. I already don’t like people as it is (it’s a cancer thing, ya’ll wouldn’t understand) so I be damned if I have people around me that aren’t sending positive energy my way!

To summarize, if you want to be the best version of yourself, start TODAY. Remember, change is constant and you don’t need permission from anyone to do so. So to all my friends and loved ones, I’M WORKING ON BEING THE BEST VERSION OF ME AND I DON’T NEED YOUR PERMISSION!
