Artists Are Getting Tired Of Ya’ll Showing Up To Their Concerts Only To Snapchat It To Death and So Am I

Ya’ll done pissed off Donny’s daughter and I won’t stand for it!

Listen, grabbing a few insta-snaps for the occasion is cool, but ya’ll really be out here doing the absolute most and the least at the same damn time when you have your phone up for the entire show.

Now, I’m not an artist but I have plenty of friends that are so let me let you in on a lil’ secret…artist HATE TO BE RECORDED AT THEIR CONCERTS. Imagine someone coming to your job, stand right in front of you and record you working during your entire shift. You would think that person is rude, distracting and crazy. That’s exactly how ya’ll are out here looking to your fave!

Lalah Hathaway is currently spilling her soul on stages all across the country on her #HonestlyTour. Recently, she took a moment to address some frustrations stemming from her Dallas stop.

See what ya’ll done did!

When I go to concerts, I make a conscience effort to be in the moment as much as possible. I’m not going to say that I don’t pull out my phone to get a quick snap here and there because I absolutely do. What I WON’T do is have my phone up and out the entire show and there’s a couple of reasons for that:

  • I don’t want to be distracted from other notifications that may come through while I’m enjoying the show
  • To keep my phone battery from dying

When I go on YouTube and see that people are recording full concerts and uploading them to their channels, I can’t help but think that that person is a USDA Grade A manager’s choice whole asshole. Besides the possible legal ramifications that I’m sure comes with doing that, how can you say you genuinely support an artist and then turn around and present their art to the world without their permission? This bootleg culture gotta cease!

I know what some of ya’ll are going to say…”But Keena! This is 2018 and we are in a different time driven by social media and instant gratification and plus…I paid my money so I can do what I please!” BE CLEAR! That shit has absolutely nothing to do with you choosing to live in the moment. Allow me this moment to get a little spiritual on ya’ll…I don’t know if ya’ll realize this but life is SHORT and music is a powerful tool that connects to our inner beings. It makes us have these things called feelings and technology has done a great job of disconnecting us from ourselves and others. Artists work extremely hard and pour their hearts out to bring us a once in a lifetime experience through their God-given gift…why distract them from giving you your monies worth?

Artists are about to be super strict on their phone policies at their shows just like comedians are and I don’t blame them. Some comedians, like my comedy bae Marlon Wayans, allow you to pull your phones out at the END of the show to grab your photos and do all the insta-snapping you like. Most aren’t that nice because LESBEHONEST, their craft is nothing to be played with.

Next time you go to a concert or comedy show and you are asked to lock your phones up, don’t be surprised and don’t say I didn’t warn you! We truly brought this on ourselves.
