A Moment of Transparency
I saw someone on Twitter say that her Dad takes care of her student loan payments. That post was a trigger for me. If only mine were that giving and didn’t see me as a burden (his words, not mine).
Not only do I pay my students loans, I pay my rent, utilities, food, transportation costs, phone, cable/internet, and now a car note and insurance and I do this all on my own. Last year I paid off a ton of loans I accumulated when I lost my job in 2015, needed the money to live off of, and my Dad wouldn’t even answer my phone calls.
I say all this to say that I’m extremely proud of myself! Some people have it A LOT easier and they don’t even know it. After losing literally EVERYTHING I had in 2016, here it is 2018 I have a new a car, a nice spacious 2 bedroom apartment (with no roommates!) a great career with benefits AND i’ll be going back to school to finish my bachelors AND get my Master’s degrees.
I’m so grateful to those that have helped along the way. I’d be lying if I said I did this on my own. I’m grateful to have a mother that through all my hardship has never complained or made me feel like a burden and is able to teach me so many valuable life lessons through it all. Even though my father chooses not to be a part of life, my goal is to make more money than he ever will so that I can help support BOTH of my parents (and my grandmother) in retirement. One of these days he will be proud of me!
If anyone is currently going through a rough patch, GOD’s timing truly is perfect and there IS light at the end of the tunnel. You just have to keep pushing and stay focused on your goals. Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Pride can be a bitch and know that you’re not alone.
Now, Let’s all be the greatness that we were born to be 🖤
